philosophy

Exotic, natural and sustainable materials indigenous to the Philippines are assembled together to create chic and versatile handbags and totes that exude the style and sensibility of Danna Davis Designs. The enduring beauty of nature coupled with the timeless spirit of classic fashion manifests in every handcrafted piece.

Indigenous materials from the Philippines and around Asia allow for “stylish to meet natural”

coconut shell as it is used in our Potrero Hill and Hanalei bags are cut, shaped and buffed into perfection. The “shells” are then hands strung together with abaca twine.

coconut husk naturally drops from coconut tress. It is literally what the tree itself chooses to shed. We take these husk strips and cut and sew them into bags that resemble pony hair or calf hair…without the cruelty.

freshwater cultured pearls are used in our evening bags. They are from oysters farmed on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. These jewels from the sea are then carefully chosen for their quality and color before they are hand sewn onto luxurious leathers.

jute the lining we use in our hanalei bags come from the bark of the jute plant. It's one of those mildly rough textures that actually feel good to the touch. Aside from being very strong and versatile to work with, jute is an environmentally sound material.
